Russell Square to St Pancras

Of course it wasn't green and peaceful for long but a walk back through to St Pancras surely proved that London is one of the best and most inspiring cities to live in!

Russell Square

I've been for a walk today round a part of London I don't usually visit and have been inspired by what I saw. A little green corner of the capital....

Kirkandrews on Esk

The Church at Kirkandrews on Esk is situated just outside Longtown right on the England/Scotland border.  A very romantic place, if a little windy!

Wild Primrose growing on the church wall....

The swing bridge...
Not all of us were brave enough to venture across!

A Weekend Up North

We have just returned from a weekend in the north and so thought I'd share something other than Upholstery for a change.
My journey started from a very impressive newly re-vamped Kings Cross and I left the train in a very wet Newcastle.

The rest of my adventures were then spent in North Cumbria and the Scottish Borders...beautiful!

and then there were two...

Work on the chairs has been a bit slow over the past few weeks however, last yesterday I felt like I might be making some progress. I've both chairs on the go at the same time now.
It took a while to match them up but I'm pleased with how they're looking.

The seat

Well some progress has been made. The spring unit has been secured, covered in hessian and stitched and the top fabric is being chopped and pinned. Really need to buy a contrast fabric now....oh what colour to choose?

Fabric for the chairs...

So, thinking about what fabric to use for the chairs and how they belonged to my great-grandmother, we (Mam & Margaret) thought about how she would use fabric again and again, also, when she had curtains made, she'd then have a dress to match!!? Pretty cool eh? It then came to us! Of course! The curtains!

They had hung in my bedroom at home for years and were now a bit redundant. They were the obvious choice and I had to use them for these. Here they are...

The chair had a great pocketed sprint unit in it and failing to find a replacement we decided that the best way to re-do it would be to make up a new unit, using the pieces that had come out. I'll keep you posted on how I get on with the challenge ahead...

New Chairs...

Well, it's been so long since I did any blogging so I thought I better get back into it and let you know what I'm up to. I've started some new chairs - this time a pair of 1950's chairs that belonged to my Great-Grandmother. They are by Howard Keith and really were of the time. The original fabric was still in tack as it was so hard-wearing but they really did need brought up to date. Here's how it started off...and once all that old fabric was removed.
